Southern Kit Car Visit Brooklands
Neil first threw the idea out there, how about a blat to Brooklands? Mmmm seems like a good idea. I mean what could be better, a place that few of us had ever visited in the tin top let alone the ‘kits’ AND a blat. Perfect. Well except for me as the Tiger was in dry dock having a tweak. So Rob and I were the ‘outsiders of the Group in our hairdressers cabriolets!
But I get ahead of myself! We arranged a meet at Newlands Corner, a handy place on the North Downs between Guildford and Shere overlooking the fine countryside below. Always a favourite, but alas it was to be a day tinged with grey skies and mizzle ( if there is such a word ). Def: Mizzle –
Duly assembled we headed off on what was in reality a short run to the spiritual home of racing, aviation and goodness knows what else. Of course there’s always two ways to reach a destination –
If you’ve never been to Brooklands move it up your ‘to do list’….it really is worth it. The displays of cars is to say the least very interesting ( goodness that was a bit Steve Davis like wasn’t it )….and the halls / displays of aircraft were better ( to my mind). I was keen to ‘do’ the Concorde Experience, so solo I wandered off to find all I could about this stunning aircraft. I could repeat what was said and learned –
I found out afterwards that waxing lyrical about this beautiful machine to a 16 year old daughter is a no no, so the next time I go there I’ll take her with me –
Signs abounded – ‘Do not walk up ths banking, slippery slope’ ………pah, that sounds like a challenge. Comedy moment of the morning Paul going base over apex in his slidey shoes……….well done mate. As we’d wandered around in small groups we had a quick debrief afterwards and brought each other up to speed on the odd exhibit that we may have missed. I believe that Brooklands are now doing Brekkie Mornings in the style of the Goodwood Brekkie meets, so worth checking it out.
