Legend 2 – John O’Groats for Lunch

Day 1 Report.
So the adventurers rallied at 7am in the car park of McD’s at Lakeside.
The weather didn’t dampen spirits but it did dampen everything else I was officially moist (and not in a good way) by the time I got to Lakeside but it mattered not. We were ready for the off.

The whole route is broken up into bite size chunks and day 1 was motorway to Scotch Corner with a breakfast stop en route.

The afternoon plan was cleverly tweeked by Duncan to get on the A68 earlier then I anticipated which was a good shout. We ate the miles and although it was flooding in places, which made it impossible to stop and take moody photos of places like Kielder. The beauty through the weather wasn’t lost on me.

We arrived at Dunfermline by 6.30 having completed about 650 miles. Dinner, a pint and a hot bath (not necessarily in that order) ensued and I feel almost human again.

Day 2 Report.
The good news this morning is that its stopped raining. We rallied at 7am outside the hotel and loaded the cars just in time for Andy and Bob from the Scottish Kitcar Club to turn up.

The guys were going to run with us, Andy to Perth and Bob all the way to Inverness. Some of the others took photos during that leg so hopefully they will appear in due
We stopped for breakfast at a place called Ralia. It is the source of the internet. I’ve never seen so many charger cables in one place. I digress, Ralia, pretty little place, sort of beauty spot

Breakfast done, we peeled off the miles until at a refuelling stop north of Inverness Bob said his goodbyes and headed home. Pleasure Bob.

Onward and upwards, the miles kept on falling away, beautiful scenery, rain showers, accident scenes (biker in a hedge). At about 12.30 with the satnav saying you still had an hour and a half til JoG, we stopped at a little habour village called Helmsdale (home of some highland games in August apparently) and given we were in Scotland Duncan and I ordered the haggis:

and very nice it was too, if not a little dry. It was good value though as both Duncan and I reported later that we had been eating it all afternoon

Helmsdale had a very pretty habour (thanks to Liz and Stuart for walking down there and taking these photos:

And so the final assault on JoG commenced. the last 50 miles were dispatched and we arrived. Please note it wasn’t that foggy on the last piccy but my phone steamed up because it was that damp :

Now that was over we only had to dispatch another 300 miles back to Dunfermline, which we duly did and in the Harvester by 9.30pm

This morning we returned to Blighty and arrived home to stop the clock at 5.03pm VERY wet. Scotch Corner was submerged and the last 20 miles down the M20 repeated the experience. BUT we did it and we now are the proud owners of the LEGEND 2 JoG for Lunch (although we may rename it as technically we had lunch down the road) tee shirt (when I get them printed).

Job Done……………… Now what should we do for LEGEND 3??????????????
