Goodwood and the Roads around…..

by admin on July 29, 2012 in Reports with No Comments

On Sunday  we gathered (if that’s still an appropriate term for three cars) at Buck Barn at the luxury time of 7:30. Except for James. Who was in Horsham at 7:40. Some extremely dodgy instructions and one clever idea (‘use your ITN’) later, we were all ready to discuss alternators and get going.

The weather started out very sunny, but near Goodwood the roads were showing signs of past showers, making James on his 888’s take a a bit easier (good decision, James!) We encountered a few drops from above, but most of the precipitation was coming from below, the left (in left turns), the right (in right turns) and the front (no idea where that came from but I got a good frontal splash at some point).

Our photo location and breakfast venue were the Sumner (not a typo) Pond Fisheries, which was a bit of a mistake since the a) the camping was packed, b) those campers like to get their breakfast cooked for them on a Sunday morning and, c) they don’t get up at 7. Which meant a 45 minute wait. Which meant an alternative location was required and found in the Newbridge Nurseries garden centre. James decided at this point to do a ‘Phil’; he couldn’t get his car started (this is the ‘Phil’), but brought a spare battery (!, this is not part of a ‘Phil’), which was promptly installed. Shortly after he bottomed out for the first time (nice sparks!), so congrats to you James!

The location was nice, and sitting outside in the sun, breakfast was served promptly, but I think we all agreed it was too small, too expensive and way too healthy. No beans? No hashthingies? One sausage? A pound of muchrooms? No grease? We in the SKCC go for quantity, not quality, thank you very much (dare to correct me). After breakfast James did another Phil, so Tony and I gave him a bump start in the car park (ah, the good old days).

Conclusions: be careful with your breakfast venue, always have a working alternator, and where was everyone else?
