Northern SKCC’ers on Track at Blyton
Report By Linda Ashby. On Sunday, your Northern contingent went to a track day at Blyton Park in sunny, but still parky, Lincolnshire. Several Johns were involved, so to avoid confusion we’ll stick to forum handles for Midszero John and Kenjohn John. Then there was Midszero’s friend Jon, known as Little Jon, who as has been discussed before, has a “Robin Hood”, boom boom. Those of us in attendance with more unique names were myself, Paul and Alan, and a pal of Midszero’s, who’s name I can’t remember, so sorry, who’d won a day riding shotgun at Blyton as a...
SKCC Road Trip – Newbies Perspective
I wanted one of the guys who hadn't done one of our trips before to write a few words about his experiences and thoughts on the 5 day UK Tour that we recently completed. So i'll hand the rest of this text over to Duncan Underhay......... I finished building my Caterham Seven just over two years ago, and joined the owners club. They didn't organise any runs in the East Sussex area, but I heard about the Southern Kit Car Club from Mark posting runs on their forum. I joined the SKCC forum, received a very friendly welcome and was...
Another Northerly SKCC Run
So, what a great and varied turnout we had today for the latest Northern contingent run – 8 cars! 2 Zeros, 3 Tigers, 2 Westfields and a Locost. One of our local Westy pals, Tony, arrived at ours at about 9.15, and after the obligatory tour of the workshop, we set off to Stamford to the BP garage that was the designated meet point, taking in our usual route to Burghley House on the edge of Stamford, ‘cos that’s got a good twisty back road bit. Good start then. But it wasn’t long before the usual SKCC chaos set in....
Rallye Des Jonquilles
SKCC joins our French friends for a Tulip Rally. This is the 5th Rally that we have been invited to and what a great Event this is. Open to classics and 'hand built' cars it's a lovely jaunt through the Pas De Calais Region on some winding backroads. PART 1 - breakfast in England (for those that had it), lunch in Belgium, Dinner in France For the first time I was looking forward to a French rallye with my own car and a navigator. With my folks present on childcare duties, Mrs Mango was coming along to guide us to...
Beating Rust
How to keep invasive and unsightly rust at bay OK......sitting comfortably, then let's begin. Let's face it even the 'polishers' amongst us can struggle to keep their cars looking tip top, and with so much exposed metal many owners are concerned about using their cars in winter due to salt on the roads and the long term impact of that. What follows is my 'take' on the steps I'm taking to protect my car, it isn't The Bible of Rust, but after hours of research I think it has a solid base to work from. I wanted to address 3...
New Type 9 Gearbox – BGH or ?
A trip to BGH Geartech. The old adage of ' If you don't try - you'll never know' holds true in so many ways when it comes to our cars, however I'd tried a straight cut gearbox and it just 'wasn't for me'. In fairness the 'box' had come with the car and although I managed to live with it for a few weeks before the car was sent off for winter mods comments from others ( notably Mrs G ) suggested that long term I ought to source something quieter, something a bit more civilised. Whilst the ratios of...
SKCC does Scotland – Unplugged….
Southern Kit Cars Goes to Scotland - The Unplugged Tour This is the diary of 2 intrepid petrolheads from SKCC who decided to do a 5 day tour of Scotlands finest roads. The adventure was threatened before the 'Off' by awful weather at home and away, but in the true spirit of the Club they set off anyway! Here, below Neil one half of the double act recounts their exploits on a daily basis, so do keep looking back for the next instalment. They had worked out a rough itinerary, but decided not to pre-plan too much and just...
GBS Zero S2000 – So how does it drive?
It’s rare that I passenger and if I’d known it was going to be so chilly this morning I wouldn’t have committed to doing so today either! But a ‘yes’ is a ‘yes’ in my book, so at what seemed an unearthly hour due to the clocks changing I jumped into the warm Saab and headed for the ‘meet point’. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to tell me we were going to be facing ‘minus numbers’……the thick frost on the windscreen was warning enough, but the onboard computer merrily advised that it was -3 degrees. So I tip toed...
Car Care Tips
5 Tips For Effective Car Care Different people look at their cars in different ways. For some, a car is merely a practical means of transportation, a means of getting from A to B. For others, it is something to be enjoyed and cherished. And for others still, a car is a passion, a collectors item, or a hobby. No matter what category you fall into, however, one thing remains the same: Looking after your vehicle. Regardless of what kind of car you own, or how you use it, there are certain aspects of car care that never change,...
Rotational Mass, Lightweight Flywheels – should I?
Some if not all of the good people within SKCC will know that i'm having a new engine built by Dick Primett. As before it's based on the 2.0 Zetec and will be far from 'stock' - with some 'trick' goodies hidden within. Thoughts turned yesterday to the merits and value of changing the existing flywheel....and led to a few hours worth of research on the subject. Those that know me well will know that my engineering background is second only to Charlie Chaplins, or to put it another way - i'm clueless, but prepared to learn. The existing flywheel...
