Kit cars, yes two of them, first the daily driver. The "Flying fridge" is a soft top Rickman Ranger I bought in 1996 & has been my main transport ever since, although it's a bit like "Trigger's Broom" - I've changed just about every non-Rickman component on it. It was built as a static demonstrator for Halfords (who were going to sell kits) but then after a few twists & turns of fate, I bought it when it had been registered for three years but only had 45miles on the clock. Back then it was all Escort (1600 X-flow), it's now got a 2.0i Sierra engine & gearbox, Capri front struts, Capri 2.8i brakes & Corsa power steering. It's been through 12" deep snow & flood water, towed the caravan, & NEVER failed an MoT - ah, I've said that now haven't I?
It's now got 80,000 miles on it & is looking a bit tired, so this summer it's coming off the road to get a full re-wire, new seats & an 1800 Zetec from an Escort GTi With the induction & computer from a Westfield ZEi. It leans a bit in the corners - especially with the hard top on - but handling is ABSOLUTELY neutral, & has seen off a hot hatch or two in it's time.

The car most of you will be more interested in is "Low Commotion" my Fury. This I built myself, I got a 60k mile 2.0 Sierra & put the engine in the Rickman & the Rickman's 711 block X-flow in the Fury with the Sierra's brakes, transmission etc. The plan was always to get it on the road with the X-Flow "as it was free" then change to a Zetec, but I got a bit carried away & bought a cam & twin Dellortos & various other bits so my "free" engine cost around £500.
Through the build I had a target weight of 600kg - but no way of seeing what it actually was, so when they weighed it at SVA (which it passed first time) at 590kg I was pretty pleased. In it's first 9 months on the road it did almost 3000 miles relatively trouble free, it's on a SORN right now, but should be back on the road next month, then it just needs a spell on a rolling road to cure a flat spot & I'll be looking for somewhere to go in it.
