I'm a firm believer in starting slowly (excuse the pun), but also the key is the fact I want to sprint the car. Sprint classes for kitcars usually are up to 1700cc and then 1700cc and over. The top class is very broad and there's a lot a very fast and capable cars in the SE in that class. BECs are in another class entirely.
In the 1700 class I can stick in a 1700 zetec se and tune for 150bhp reasonably easily, or the other classic engine is the 4age so I've got options and know I can get reasonably fast, albeit not crazy fast. But then again, the great thing about kitcars is I can stick a bike engine in or whatever later on.

Re: New member - Carshalton, Surrey
So I've obviously thrown all logic out the window and bought myself a car. It's a MK Indy with a Rover 1.8 K series turbo engine in it. I thought about it a lot and just felt I couldn't get another car with the same power and drive-ability for the same money. I think I'll still do sprints but not with the same hopes....

My first drive was getting it back from Coventry on Saturday. Workmates delighted in coming in my office and telling me about severe weather warnings due for the midlands on Saturday but I remained optimistic. After all, who's ever heard of it raining during Wimbledon or the British GP?
It was dry all the way on the train, and I left Coventry about 10:30. It was my first real drive in the car so I knew I had to take it easy. It was logical to take A-roads home, and I got as far as Banbury before the clouds opened. That was soaking #1, but it couldn't stop me from smiling. The back of the car trying to overtake me while driving in a straight line and accelerating in third only made me smile even more.
I made it round Oxford and through Henley on Thames with only one more soaking, but by Windsor the rain started again and I needed a break. A quick petrol stop (100 miles on 10 litres of petrol) and I was on my final stint. It started to dry and I took a brief trip on the car park known as the M25 and then up the A3 for a blast in the dry and a few miles of back-roads to home.
Lessons learnt? She's a bit skippy on bumpy corners, and I know she can bite me if I'm not careful, but I think there's a lot of fun to be had.
I'm already planning the mods to make her a bit more mine....

Hey Andy, glad to see you got your car. I'm just round the corner from you in Wallington, Hackbridge end. Give me a shout if you ever want to go out for a burn.
The smiling doesn't stop.

My friend Jim has the K-series turbo in his Thruxton demonstrator, which I believe has a chassis based on an MK Indy. He says its quite nippy....

Hi Andy 1303,
Im a new member such as yourself, I have a Locost 7 with 4-age power that was built by a chap who made the chassis 4" longer, as he was a taller chap. Having played with it, and meeting a fellow member over in Whiteleaf (not far from you), I found myself buying a Fisher Fury (BEC).
As the guys have already pointed out, this is a great club (I belong to one closer to home in Ashford, but these chaps know how to enjoy there cars !!). Meet up with people and Im sure you will get good advice and a freindly chat !!
Not sure if Im aloud to say this, but I will be putting the Seven up for sale, its a Locost 7,Toyota 4-age power, type 9, escort live rear end, Avos all round, Willwood front discs and calipers, Minilites etc, if anyone is interested !!
Regards Bill
