So you've just joined, why not say a few words to introduce yourself - a bit about you, your car - whatever!

Yet another Essex member

Postby smokey mow » Tue Apr 26, 2011 8:46 pm

Evening one and all, having been reading the board for a few weeks now I thought it was about time I signed up and introduced myself properly to say hello.

I live in Colchester and joined the kit car scene about 3-1/2 years ago after much waiting when I ordered my first kit. Ever since I passed my driving test I always wanted to own a Westfield but it took me 14 years before I could finally afford one :D I bought their Mazda SDV and following 9 months of building and with a first time SVA pass I was finally on the road in the spring of 2009.

Since then many thousands of miles have been clocked up including a run to Le Mans and I'm in my second season of sprinting the car in the Westfield Speed Series.

Here's a link to a video of the car from the Silverstone Sprint last weekend and a couple of pictures of the car.

Thanks for the welcome

The Westfield Speed Series has been running several years now and regularly attracts a lot of entrants, I think there's about 80 drivers signed up for this years championship and at the Silverstone round we had 24 Westfield's entered. Most of the Sprint meetings are run in parallel with Rounds of the British Sprint Championship so we get to watch some pretty fast cars while we wait for our own runs. 8-) Our series is organised and run by Nick Algar who was British Sprint Champion for the last two years. The class structure caters for various specs of cars running with or without windscreens, different engine capacities, together with road and non-road going classes etc so there's a class suitable for almost anyone to compete against similar machinary.

I'm ashamed to say that I'm a fair weather owner so over the winter months the car is tucked away in the warm and dry till the sun returns in the spring. That said she's only been back on the road for 7 weeks this year and already I've clocked up nearly 1000 miles

Big up the Essex Massive :D :D :D

Welcome Smokey, knew if I kept posting 'SKCC' on WSCC i'd get some people over here.

I am going to try and get some Essex runs out organised after Stoneleigh. On that subject we have a evening track day @ Brands that you may be interested in.

Welcome to another Colchestarian (if that is such a word?). Nice tidy car you have there.

Still another few days work for me before I can book my test and get my Quantum on the road, but will be posting pictures and news when I do. Will then be up for meeting up and blatting around some of Essex's finest roads. Well any that don't have pot holes the size of Fiat Punto's anyway.

Welcome again and I hope you find this site as useful as I have.

Hi Luke, it's always good to hear from a fellow Colchestarian /Colchestrian?/ err Essex Boy :D

There's plenty of good roads around this way once you're on the road and just over the boarder into suffolk. Not sure where you're planning to have your IVA done but my SVA was at Norwich, they we're brilliant, very helpful and had a realistic approach to the test procedure, it seems they do all the testing for Lotus' cars.

I must have this kit car addiction pretty badly as not content with already having one Westfield I've just bought a second very bent one in need of a total rebuild. Looks like that's my next two winters sorted for what to do.
