We have a decent Sony flat screen TV, a few years old, but working fine. Recently Amazon Prime became unavailable, now I'm getting a message that BBC iPlayer will be unavailable from mid February, FFS. What's that all about, b#stards

Why? Is the tv broken or are the services being switched off T?

Speaking as a concerned friend and avid user of those services!

Agreed it’s annoying when “smart” TVs become [more] dumb when they don’t update the software.

If you’re up for using your phone/tablet this will sort you out:

Or if you want something with a remote and no need for a phone:

Thanks Russ, will investigate those, seems my 'smart' TV has suddenly become a sandwich short of a picnic

Hi Neil, Nothing wrong with the TV, just some so called upgrade to force me to upgrade or buy something, b#stards. Remember the good times when everything was free to view on BBC or ITV...

As Russ mentioned, the Chromecast or Fire TV stick would be a good bet.

I've had a Fire TV stick for a few years. My Sony TV is a 2010 model and may have been 'smart' 10 years ago but I'm sure it's now pretty much braindead.
Anyway the Fire Stick is great... all the usual TV catchup apps, Netflix, Prime, YouTube, etc. I can browse YouTube on my Android phone then cast a video to the Fire Stick if I want to watch on the TV, browse Spotify on my phone and play to the TV, can screen share my phone display to the Fire Stick to view my phone pics/vids on the TV. Can even install other Android apps such as Kodi.

Yep we have a firestick and nothing else. Never had any problems. On ours all apps you can get on your phone can be downloaded onto the stick including youtube and more importantly motorsport channels.
