Thanks for taking the time to document the process, the blades look really good now, can't imagine how good they look when polished
Edit to say I've just had a look at the website, some amazing pieces there esp the kukri

I've just been discussing that with my wife. I think I will use wood, but I'm not sure if I should use the same wood on both knives or different.
I had a rummage in my wardrobe and found:
Maple (too plain, byt nice to work)
Yew (poisonous so maybe not)
Bocote (Mexican rosewood)
Zebrano
Honduras walnut
American black walnut
And a couple of antler tips
Choices...choices....

I was going to say “interesting” or “different” or “a little strange”.

Time for an update, sorry for the delay, but I got sidetracked making mirror mounts
After a lot of elbow grease, I have polished both blades. It is always tricky photographing highly polished steel as you get everything in the room, the camera and the photographer relected in the blade
. The best way I have found is to take the photos outside:
They certainly aren't perfect, if you look closely there are some slight flaws in the steel, but overall I am happy with the way they are progressing. The obvious notch in the edge of the upper knife in the top photo will be removed when I sharpen them. Obviously, sharpening before the handles are made makes life rather dangerous
I'll be getting on with making the handles in the next few days.

Stunning work Duncan, the imperfections add to the character and patina. A superb gift they will be delighted with.
