What tree is this?
Anyone know what type of tree this is and if the roots are likely to cause problems with the foundations? I looks like an overgrown conifer to me, but I haven’t got a clue when it comes to nature.

We had a much smaller conifer cut down last year and it was further from our foundations.
Not sure of the species, but too big and too close if I was thinking of owning the house!

not an experts view, but irrespective of how wide the roots spread - i'd imagine that it'll be changing the aspect/make up of the soil around for quite a distance as it seeks water.
from memory, isn't that a question that pops up on 'for sale/owner' packs '' are there any trees over 'x' ft within 'y' metres.

Thanks all, it sort of goes with my thinking, too close, what were they thinking? As much as it affects the soil etc, it also blocks the outlook which is stunning.
The house has been on the market for a little while, it’s in very good order though a tad dated and overpriced, not sure I’ll get £150k off for the tree though..
I’ll get the surveyors report and see what it says.

What ever type of tree it is and it is a mighty beast, there is no doubt a TPO on it and you cut it at your peril!! Certainly looks a bit close to me but some species have less of a root spread than others. Trouble would be the moisture drain on the surrounds. Wait for tree surgeons out there to tell me otherwise.

Thanks James, TPO, good point I’ll check that out as well. You would hope they only apply to slow growing broad leaf stuff, though as I said, I know fook all about trees except cutting nailing or burning them.
Another view, it’s pretty big..

Mike I think that is a Douglas fir, and by the look of the size of it , it has been there longer than the house. If anything removing it would likely cause subsidance.
