Love the one through the trees, how did you catch that ? with manual focus i would imagine but great photos, plus the colour of the autumn trees with the car sitting there nice one.

Thanks Colin, the camera is set to a fixed focus point I then focused on the small gap between the branches, then switched the autofocus off using the switch on the lens. A quick burst and hopefully the car is in the right place.
To save switching the auto focus on and off you can set the camera up for “back button focusing” which separates the focusing from the exposure/shutter button, by designating another button for focusing. I haven’t done it yet but will do, when I have a chance to practice, as it takes a little getting used to.

some good ones there again Mike, gutted that i couldnt get along, was keen to see J's race and also fancied watching the 'into the night', had to make do with listening to the soundtrack from home.
I've dabbled with back button focus, for most applications i do prefer that method....

Some great photos yet again Mike, can you remind me what camera/ lens setup you're using?

Camera is a Canon 80D, lens is a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens. The lens makes the difference tbh. Worth going for the pro grade option if you can stretch to it. The lens has been around for 8 years or so and is still current, so like most decent lens, retain considerable value compared with bodies which are upgraded more frequently, 2-3 years or so.
Still got the 760D which I still use and used for the pitlane shots at Snetterton with the Canon 10-18mm EFS lens. Not a great deal spec wise between the bodies, both well suited for sports photography.
If Santa is feeling kind, I wouldn’t mind the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens, which is the staple choice for sports/wildlife stuff. Though I can live with what I have.
Throw in a battery grip and monopod, jobs a good un.

Thanks Mike, looks a nice setup, my £400 Panasonic Lumix FZ200 bridge camera does pretty well, but now I've got lens envy

Lens envy worse than upgraditus.. downside is it does weigh a bit, and isn’t so convenient.
I thought you had a DSLR?. If I can get to the Xmas breakie meet I’ll throw it in the car if you want to have a play. Probably find some dodgy golfers somewhere and put them off their stroke.

Thanks Mark. Reset the camera to back button focusing, much more intuitive, so much better. It'll save fiddling with switches and moving the focus point around. Should have done it sooner.
