So how did you get the petrol tank back, then?

And the answer is.....

Unscrew the rear "parcel shelf" (2 screws on mine - very nice design by the builder)
Wrap new tank in nice soft travel rug.
Bungee tank in to framework above diff.
Screw parcel shelf back - it's as if it was never there....
