i know I know I want too, but I know I cant afford it, but I know I dont beleive I know I cant afford it, I just know she'd chop me bollox off if I did!! - unless of course she doesnt know !!

although P - she didnt know about my torch until you blabbed

Anyway - update, I took the lid of the gearbox this evening and it definatley aint blowing oil out of the blow hole, in fact the blow hole was completely blocked which means that it must have been building up pressure inside the box and finding another way out, which was probably one of the seals, hopefully clearing the blockage will releive the seal and all will be well in the world! - cant help thinking it's found a permanent leak point though!!

I think the plan will be to put it all back together and carry a spare bottle of gearbox oil and a long pipi, and just keep an eye on it until the winter jobs!

So, Rich, is that a complete gearbox???

PM me how much you want for it?

Must admit Im torn between taking the existing one out now and putting in new gaskets and seals, or........trying to negotiate a deal with BGH but finding it hard to justify the expense when a normal type 9 will do!!

not sure what other options I have?

thats the one and only spare gearbox i have left, it a 2 litre pinto 4 speed and has been round a banger track more than once. i used to have loads of the same and a few that had not been raced till the thiving pyckies raided the garage where i had all the bits i wanted to keep.
I used to have boxes of spares where i used to strip and rebuld then for the same, i would not recommend it for a road car but you could have had the top if you wanted it.

bugger, that moves me closer to the expensive option :D

I think Im ok for the lid now, having taken my one of it definatley asnt blowing from it, and its impossible to actually put a pipe on it because the other side of the blow hole is behind a plate on the other side of the lid.

I'm really torn what to do now, either put up with the leak or pull it out and change the gaskets and seals - just cant make my mind up !!

Having taken a few 4 speeds to bits there is only 3 seals involved, one between the front of the casing and the bell housing, one between the back of the casing and the extension housing and the one on the lid.
i would suggest now you have cleared the blow hole that you lub up the lid seal and refit it and see how you get on with some spare oil in the car if needed.
Not sure about the 5 speeds which i beleive is an extension piece put on the back of the casing.
