Re: SKCC Car Limits Activity Day Fri 29th Sept
Good morning one and all
I've not been here before so thought this might be useful to those in the same boat or that are forgetful......
Just had a chat with the very helpful lady at the car limits place.
Contact details:
If using Sat Nav, we haven't supplied the postcode as it takes you to the wrong place! Please get off M11 at Junction 7 and just follow the signs to 'North Weald Market'.
North Weald Airfield,
Merlin Way,
North Weald,
Essex
CM16 6HR
Tel: 01992 525750
She said that traffic locally can be a bit of a pain so to allow plenty of time to get there. If you do arrive early then generally the offices are open from 08:45 but you may also wish to fill up with FUEL. There's a number of garages near by including a Shell garage at Merlin Way, North Weald Bassett, Epping CM16 6HR which is only a few minutes away.
She said that the briefing starts at 09:00 and we should be on track by 09:30 after they've checked over cars, tyre pressures, noise (if necessary). She also said that tyre pressures are often adjusted to be the maximum per the info written on the tyre to help protect the sidewalls. For Westfields etc this is probably not needed however.
CRASH HELMETS are optional according to the second person I've spoken to, the first said we needed them in error. They are not fussed about having arms and legs covered unlike at track days.
She also said to make sure all loose kit needs to be removed from the car but that we can leave it in their offices for the day.
Lunch is 12:00-13:00. People generally either bring some or go off site to get some.
And we finish driving by 16:00 and should be out of the door by 16:30.
I hope this helps and look forward to seeing you there.
Chris

WHAT?????
That's never been a requirement before - it's a little late to be telling us now!
If it's really a requirement then I'm probably out unless they have some to rent.

Re: SKCC Car Limits Activity Day Fri 29th Sept
Last year they didnt say anything about helmets and ive just looked on the website and it says that as its a driver training day helmets are not required. As for the tyre pressures I let mine down a couple of pounds while we were there last year from what I normally run

Apologies - I've just called them back and the chap I spoke to said that he "doesn't think they're needed". I pushed for a definitive answer and he said that if people had not needed them before that nothing had changed and that there had probably been confusion at their end as helmets are needed at other locations they use.
There is a strict 105dBa limit in place now though

Phew, thanks for checking, just the noise to get past now - it "just scraped in" at Castle Coombe which was 100db, so should be OK.

If using a trailer through Dartford tunnel, cover your number plate on the car on the trailer or risk paying for two cars.
