Why so loud? I was 96 at Brands at 3500 revs. I’m zetec on Jenveys.

That's because you're at 3500rpm Chris. It's normally 75% throttle they test at which for a zetec is nearer 5000rpm assuming you have a soft cut at 6700 ish?

Be interesting to see what noise you have at 5?

Sometimes people like to see driving licences, so I'll bring mine along.

I'll get through the tunnel in good time, so is anyone planning a breakfast stop before?

There's a technique to noise tests. Bring the revs up slowly to avoid overshooting and let them off smoothly as some cars tend to make a lot more noise of the revs drop quickly. My rally car was always close to the limit so I became well practiced at noise tests

My car was 104db at brands when I had it checked a while ago, I've just changed the silencer to a bike one and it's much quieter although I haven't had a meter on mine we did on my brothers which was 105 before we fitted the same as I now have and after it was 95 so hopefully I'll be ok.

What type of bike silencer did you use?

We've used Yamaha R1 silencers (from about 1998 bikes which ran single silencers) on both our cars neither of us have noticed any difference in either car yet other than the noise level
