I actually meant that the weather in the Pyrenees was atrocious during the trip. Cold and wet!

Yep, as Paul said, we did this in 2011 to get to Allesandria in Northern Italy, its not a bad solution as it trundles down there overnight while your sleeping, the downsides are the start point is in Den Bosche (spelling??) which is 180 miles or so from calais and the train cabins are very very small - we all arrived struggling with our luggage (6 of us - 5 boys and Linda) and the conductor showed us to our "room" which was about 8ft square - theres no way we couldve fitted in there but luckily the neighbouring rooms were free so we spread out (but if they hadnt been!!!!)

And..... it costs about £500 one way (remember the car transporter was half that!!).

So instead of driving the 180 miles east, you could drive South and be "on your way" much quicker and cheaper!

yes tony all well and good mate,
but there isn't the numbers to make the transporter work I don't think and we were lucky with that price weren't we?
..as far as cabins are concerned are the cabins as small as the room in the drivers side of my car??
id like to be full of energy raring to go when I get down there...
the other option would be to incorporate the drive down as part of the trip, and add some activities along the way..

whatever happens me and crunchie have agreed we are deffo going....its so easy to find hotels and camp sites that we may even go nomad without booking anywhere..
I think what we need to do is confirm a date.. find interesting parties, collate numbers and have a vote on how to get down there and were to go, that way we all get something we want out of a big trip... if we decide to do Italy then cheapest would obviously find some cracking roads all the way down and incorporate it in the trip..

9 days. Starting on Saturday 5 July 2014 and back on 13 July 2014
So lets start firming up names and numbers again for whos interested....

I like that idea, having just got back from the dordogne, I can confirm, you don't have to be in the alps to find some cracking french roads.
Yes I've been drinking, what of it!!

we came up with a route plan late last night me and paul..
1700 miles over 7 or 8 days not including 2 days travelling by ferries etc,
it will be down to swiz alps, across to the Pyrenees via the french coast and national parks then up to the picos de Europa and back home from Santander.
once a better idea and more detailed route gets put together we will post up..

Ok the trip is on!

We have sorted Glamping with sensible costs for the trip.

We are putting a deposit on the trip this week. :D

9 days of great driving and France, Belgium, Switzerland, great tourist attractions, and the Alps included. Not only that but we are Glamping at 5 star camp sites with frame tents or mobile homes and probably less than half the cost of this years trip.

What is the difference? Lee, Mattijs and I think that the fun starts at Calais. Finding great roads on the way down is not difficult and not a motorway being used!

Room for more SKCC members if you would like to complete a bucket list trip. :D drop me a line.

Crunchie
