STELVIO PASS / ITALIAN LAKES 2018

Postby AshleyO » Wed Dec 20, 2017 2:27 pm

Having had a fab time doing NC500 in 2016, and missed a Dax adventure in 2017, my plan is to do the Stelvio Pass in Italy in 2018

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_iF5I-nP40

Options are either to drive all the way (!) or drive to Dusseldorf and put the car/s on a train down to Italy and carry on the drive from there

Timing - prob late May / early June

Anyone interested?

good shout Ashley, a bunch of us are heading down to the Rhone Alpes around that time, and there's another crew doing the Pyrenees in July....no doubt you'd be welcome to join either of those if you're not dead set on the Stelvio/Italy. If it's a name to tick off on the bucket list....fine, if its pure quality of driving that you;re after i;m sure that 1-2 may throw a different pass or two at you.

Well done Ashley, if you do go down there then make sure you get up early in the morning as after 9am the traffic up and down that particular pass is extremely heavy - the pass the other side is the Bormio pass which in my opinion is far better.

A couple of years ago a group of us went up the Stelvio and down the Bormio at around 6.30 in the morning and it was fantastic - to prove it here is Kentons Video

Yes, I had planned to add Bormio to the trip too
Fully aware it gets busy, but as you say, it's just a timing issue
I have done Rhone & Alps to death. Pyrennees was a bit bland for me
BUT THE BIG ONE:
2019 - Karakoram Pass. Container ship the car out there and pray
