Sunday 16th June

Postby Weathers » Thu Jun 13, 2019 8:09 am

I know it’s Fathers Day but I’m free so is anyone out and about? I have 60ltrs of v-power to get through after the meteorological anathema at Brands this week.

Can always do a short one if people need to be back.

Location depending on attendance.

07:00 for 07:15?

I would love to but I,ve just sheared a bolt off while removing the inlet manifold to fix a leak. Its going to have to be drilled out and re threaded.

I’ve got a tap and die set if that’s any use?

I think I’ve got a specific sheared bolt removal tool. I’ll have a look see tomorrow.

There has got to be any easy way. Can you get easily to the bolt? Cut a groove in the top and use a flat head driver to remove it? I use that technique all the time for stuff after someone on here suggested it when I was having trouble with the bolts on my seats. It was a revelation!!!

Thanks Chris.
Absolutely no chance of it moving with a screwdriver. Its in the cylinder head and stainless steel so a right mare. To make it harder it goes at around 45 degrees to the face

Oh bugger. So what’s the plan? Head off and to a metal engineer? Are you going to replace all of the bolts so next time they don’t all do it? You could change the cams whilst the heads away. Give you something to do.

Definitely slowly slowly slowly does it.

I have drilled out a few things in my time albeit not that important and patience, a decent drill and drill bits are all required in equal measure. Plus a couple of brave pills!
