All been mentioned really.. got a 2.4 on mine, small steering wheel increases effort especially slow speeds, bump steer is exacerbated if you have alignment issues. Overall worth it.
Power.. small nail, fast hammer, Torque.. small nail, big hammer.. I got a big hammer :P

Parking my car yesterday, it occurred to me that the Caterham rack might not be as quick as it sounds, because the turning circle is terrible.

Dick wrote:2.4 is a nice rack to use on the road if you go to low you can find it makes the car very twitchy this is not helped by the way the road surface are . Lots of steering racks have stops fitted in them and people think they have a quick rack because they can only turn it so far.

Can these stops be removed/made better ?? My circle is beyond a joke

Rob if your car has standard track wishbones you cant remove the lock stops. To do it properly you will need wide track but before doing that check that you have the removable plastic stops.
You need to pull the rack boots back and turn it on full lock to see them each side.

Westfield have in the past used racks with the stops as part of the steering rack casting - hence me saying check.

How can you tell what ratio you have, if you don't actually know what rack you have?
Yes I've been drinking, what of it!!

The 2.4 or 2.9 is the amount of turns of your steering wheel from centre to full lock Chris those are examples obvs

Cheers rob, so I guess it's dependent on having the lock stops in the right place. Will have a play...

A quick rack has nothing to do with the stops or how many turnes you have its the ratio of the rack that counts. You could have a standard rack that some one has fitted stops to limiting how many turns you have
So for example you have 3.6 turn rack fitted with stops so you can only turn it 2 turns. This is not a quick rack

Yes Dick is correct, I should have clarified I was replying to Robs query regarding his poor lock. On a Westie they limit the lock to stop the cycle wings clashing with the bodywork/headlights.

Theoretically you could have a quick rack with lock stops fitted if you had narrow track as it still needs the stops in there to limit the amount of lock as the wings will still clout bits of the car.
