Still looking at my options on the steering column.. One option is to use a shaft with escort splines at one end and a square at the other. The shaft diameter is 14mm and the square is 14mm give or take.. So the corners for the square would have to be added to the shaft..

I'm thinking lay some beads on the shaft to build up the corners then machine square.. Any thoughts?.

To note I'm not keen at all to put the welder near any aspects of steering, though with the machine turned up high I'm thinking penetration would be good and integrity intact.

When I did my steering column, I had to extend it 300mm, so bought some steel tube that fitted over the existing
shaft tightly, then drilled through the tube and shaft and C pinned the whole setup together with a total of four pins

Then welded it all up

That sounds similar to the way the Marlin column was extended

Need a 500mm shaft with escort splines on one end. apparently the shafts are 15mm diameter so there may be enough meat on them to machine into a 13.5/14mm square.

Still messing about with CAD, been struggling with the "traditional version" with the command line so have reverted to the "inventor" version, which though 3D you can produce 2D drawings for parts cutting etc. Another attempt, this time of a scooter wheel, following a tutorial.

By way of a thread resurrection and to say thanks to Mike for putting me on to the Midlana, a couple of shots of mine now it's finished.

IVA application has gone in and waiting for a test date now. Not holding my breath mind, fully expect it'll be spring before it gets a test.

Whoah, this thread pre-dates my joining - never heard of a Midlana (I thought you'd mis-spelled 'Midland' ).

So what's in that space at the rear? Looks like you could have put 2 extra seats in!

Ah, hold on is that where the engine is? Difficult to tell dimensions without a side view...

Looks good! Very interesting - I've never seen one of them before.
Would be good to see a side profile view of it.

That looks very good, nice colour too . The pushrod front suspension looks neat, and the transverse engine means the proportions look better than I expected. With an Alfa Romeo V6 it will sound glorious

Can we have some more photos of suspension/chassis without the panels on?

I would think a full build thread would be very interesting.................
