Re: Wintter project Mmmm
The reason for all the noise is in the photo half the glass has burned away and the reason for that is the stainless steel wire wool only covered half the perforated tube i bought this as a refill on a cardboard tube so wasn't packed properly so the SWW was working. But mind you none of the other packs i bought had any SWW in it.the perforated tube should have been welded to the end that comes off of the can you just can't pack it properly so i have got a solution when ebay deliver the rest of it

yup bits arrived this afternoon.this is what i'v done a piece of 3 inch x600mm perforated tube with some spacers prest in to it both ends to keep it tight and even all around i want a 6mm air gap.
and then rap 2 layers of stainless steel wire wool around it.
then rap it in glass

Re: Wintter project Mmmm
Silencer fitted and a success i wasn't sure until i started it because way back in the day competition cars and track had no noise limits but was trying to change that .All members of the ford RS club got a news letter with a method of cutting the noise. Every body had a straight though silencer so they came up with a way of making it better that's what the air gap is for.i made a stinger to go up the tail pipe out of scrap. Proper job coming up

It's time to close now so ive made the stinger. I'd like it to be a bit longer but the bend in the pipe is just to much so it looks a bit industrial but it works
It desn't look to bad
One thing i didn't expect is i've been wittering on about a miss fire at some speeds and poping and banging well it's gone
i'm gessing it's true what they told me years ago
the exhaust can be to free flowing.also it was a little bit lacking for a engine with a flyweel the same size and weight of a dinner plate. Now lively and smooth

Re: Wintter project Mmmm
right i thought that i had finished this thread but a track day at brand's was a surprise at 5225 rpm i could only get 118db this is from a silencer that is in the catalogue supposed to be 92db total nonsense.Ok time to start work again i mead a baffle to go inside the silencer . it's a lot quieter how much i will find out at the end of the month when i go back to brand's for now much quieter on the road

We've got a meter you could try if you want to try before you go to brands I can't guarantee it's perfectly accurate but it would give you an idea.

Ok i'm going to some this up i've gone back to standard with one difference the perf tub you can see has just been pushed back into the tub in the silencer it's got one or two more notches in it but i.ve gone from 120 db to 106 db i've got to say i have got my doubts about the way brands is doing the test's i.ve been there and some drive by noise is a lot
