They are as heavy or as light as you want to build them.

I dont call it a caterham 7 i call it a locost 7 which is exactly what it is. It's even got a Locost badge on the back. 7 is the shape not the make.

On the road, where you are constrained by speed limits, uneven roads, other people. 18k or 3k doesnt make a great deal of difference.

If i was going to race or run on the track all the time the car would be a very different thing.

.. yeah i am a caterham snob to some extent, not nearly half as bad as most Caterham 7 owners mind! Bullshit yet again speed limits, uneven roads, yadi yada haha! you really need to delve into the realms of chassis design, high end parts and parts specifically desinged for a car! i can gaurentee your car will feel slow in throttle response, steering response and braking response be it at 10 mph or 90mph on or off a track because your car is a locost, shame you have to try and fake it with a REAL nose cone and a 7 grill, its about the only thing that is authentic Lotus "Caterham" 7 material!

For what it's worth my views are:

1. I think it's ok to call any sevenesque car a 7 - on the basis that they are all supposed to be based on the Lotus 7 shape (mine is however a 6!)
2. Personally I think the Caterham is head and shoulders above most others - I'd have one tomorrow. That's the reason James is quick!

Beyond that, Ben that was a heroic LOL ;)

1) Again not bothered what people call their cars only gives me the hump when they try and sell it as or try to mkae a claim that it is a 7, like a westfield 7.... pff cant be assed lol :) xxx
2) Me too thats why i bought one :) your right it does help me to be fast, that and my slightly instable mentle approach to driving :)

 ...ducks and weaves for cover

Check out any race series which has kit cars in it and isn''t an one make Caterham race....and tell me how many Caterham cars win :)

LOL true in most cases but you will find some of us use them propperly and dont just push them out the garage polish then push back.. with regards to race series why would a caterham need to visit any ofther series when they have the full range of engine options available within the Caterham 7 cups, sprints, races, academy ect...? I thought about ebetering the superlight series but cant bear the though of smashing my 7 up...

I didnt try to fake anything, i bought caterham nose and wings because they were cheap and they fitted because the chassis size is very similar to a caterham.

You rate the tigers very highly? but when you look at the rear suspension have a complete sierra grafted on.... dont think that took too much chassis design.

I wrote a long speech, but i cant be arsed to argue over something silly.

I do agree that caterham has spent a lot of money on chassis design and use carbon fibre, and yours certainly goes round corners very well as a result.

On the road, but never finished....

Now now no ones better than anyone else ,you like your car because you like your car i bought and built mine because that was the budget i had if i had more i might have bought a westie if i had more i might have bought a caterham it don't matter we all have fun on runs, me personally I like havin a laugh meeting up and havin a bit of a blat,I think we proved the 1/4 mile scenario 5 very different cars all came in the exact same time OK that was a straight line no corners .Its personal choice i think .

By the way i like brians new 7 car      8-)

My point about the racing is that Caterhams are the best when raced against ....Caterhams. Put them up against something else and they may (or may not) do as well. The Striker and it's variants have dominated kit car racing for many years (look in the RGB series over the years for Strikers, Fulcrums, Phoenix & Furys).

Not really a comparrison Jeff, as the cars you mention all have Aero, striker aside, when a caterham doesnt?.. anyway you should know more than most that you could have a 1000bhp (inser car choice here) and still loose if you can't drive for toffee.... any test the caterham has been in driven by equal skilled pilots the cat wins... the chassis makes the caterham what it is along with years of RND on susspension, and the rest of the package they even tried to make the superlight range IRS but it couldnt match the lap times of the de-dion setup hence why the R500 is a de-dion setup and not the setup they run on the CSR.. IRS.

Here's a faster 7 on the track, even though its 15 kg heavier,Its the same track as the r500 went round ;)

I think its a fair comparison

indeed it is, but it's well know the R500 isnt the fastest caterham to go round the top gear test track :)
