Well done Russ, at last, and really sounds sweet

Yep, big thanks are due:

Thanks to Tone for help with the installation, particularly the wiring which was keeping me up at night with worry how that would go.
Mike for helping to wrestle the engine into the hole and for the loan of a crucial bit of gear.
Rob for his bracketry skills, they haven't fallen off yet.

What's going to happen to the sweepstake now that there was no electrical fire?

Brilliant Russ, such a sweat sound from a great engine. The engine looks stunning as well and sounds awesome.
Well done to everyone who helped out, that is what makes this club so bloody brill.

Still got a fair few jobs to do before I'm back on the road, but a running engine feels like significant progress! I still can't quite believe it just sprung to life instantly on the first attempt and ticked over beautifully.

I've got a couple of fuel leaks at the rear to deal with; A union on the Facet lift pump is leaking and the banjo for the return line into the tank won't seal either.

Curiously I only managed to get about 3 1/2 litres of oil in, the sump is slightly chopped (compared to the standard on the previous install) but it also had another section welded into the back so it should be a similar capacity to the original. Bit odd. Need to take it for a blast to see if the oil cooler take-up increases capacity somewhat.

I made significant progress on tidying up all the wiring this weekend, just a new ciggy + USB socket to install when that turns up and electrics are done (I think). Then it's just a matter of putting back the thousands of screws holding all the dash and tunnel back in place... just as soon as I find them

I really don't recommend taking your car apart in a somewhat disorganised haphazard fashioned then waiting over 6 months to try and put it back together

Engine looks great Russ. What were the figures for the old one? Must be a fair %age increase, no?

Old engine was standard except for induction & exhaust. It made 135bhp and I think about 110-115 lb/ft torque from memory. Not bad really and to be honest it was a lovely engine for a kit car, loves to rev and full of character. I just fancied putting my own stamp on things by making it a bit more "edgey" :D The old engine on Weber 40s choked out at around 7000rpm whereas the new engine has a soft cut at 8700rpm
