And the previously made repair mould for the smaller damaged area. This was taken off a good part of the arch further up.

That is serious work David. Looks like your fixing the mould to the car and making in situ? What do you do where old meets new?

Top stuff, well done for persevering.

Mike, as the Avon tub is one piece, any kind of repair or even a new arch, if they were available, would have to be grafted on. To fix new to old, the old is filed to a taper then after adding gel coat and tissue, ever larger pieces of mat are laid on top so giving a decent area of overlap. Going for 3x 600g/m2 should give about same thickness as original. That's the plan anyway.

David, Looks very thorough job, makes the finish on mine look a touch more amateur  I look forward to trying to spot the join, but suspect I won't be able to.

Tony, due to the extent of the damage it has to be done thoroughly or only alternative is replace whole tub, then find nose and bonnet don't match faded gel coat and have to buy complete bodywork set, etc.

Hmmm, about the join....

Great work there :)

Back in the early 90s I managed to crash my early Westfield SeiW. The rear wing was damaged badly and was part of the rear tub like your car. I took the decision to replace the tub, but as you say the colour didn't match (Westfield had changed the green they used  ) . Chris Smith did give me a good deal on an entirely new set of body panels, but it was a lot of work and half way through I did start to wish I had just tried to repair the wing!

Moulds now off and I'm really pleased with the result. Thicker gel coat and white layup resin cured the gel coat translucence found on test panel. Just need to fill the screw holes and then time to refit to car (with France trip looking next month I've decided priority is now to get an MOT and then beautify later, eg smooth down the joins and mould flash line, paint, etc).
