Indoor Karting Yesterday

My son Alex and I go indoor karting every couple of months. It is friendly competitive as he has beaten me the last few times by 1/100ths of second or so. The exception was the very last time when he was a good 3 tenths quicker

Yesterday I tried a to be smoother and went from a 45 dead to a 44.180. Alex improved to but was .25 second behind me.

I sent the time sheet to Ian Payne as I am .8 second quicker than him

That's one thing I have never done Karting, probably because I listen to the wrong people who go to the wrong places. It's carp , can't do this can't do that , can only do this speed , most people who I know ( evidently they don't know ) haven't been to where a few on here have been. Basically I haven't gone because listening to people who don't know. So what's the crack ? Have you got to be racing driver to appreciate karting ? Is it go at your own speed like we do on a blat ? Is it expensive ? How a bout equipment etc.

I have been going indoor karting for many years and got bored with the dirt and dingyness of the tracks generally.

Then we decided to have a day karting with all the people at work and their families if they wanted to go. We booked "TeamSport" at Farnborough and, on arrival, it was quite impressive. The karts are electric so no fumes, dirt and just the squeel of tyres. The facilities are clean and the electrionics, both for booking on and lap times etc are really good.

We book the open practice sessions so share the track with others of mixed ability. Alex and I (and Ian if he comes) are normally the quickest but it is challenging to get past the others on the track without hitting them.

We do 2 x 15 minute sessions each and we buy when they have an offer and our next session will be £15 each and if you want another 15 minute session they charge you 7.50.

They supply balaclavas, hemets and overalls. We take our own helmets and balaclavas but use their suits. The karts are very even, well mantained and the torque from the electric motor is very good.

Alex and I are the quickest in the last week but some way off the fastest this month. it depends on the weather and the heat in the track and tyres.

The people we were on track with enjoyed competing with use and staying in front for as long as they could and there was a good deal of banter during the break and at the end. We were in the 44 seconds a lap, the next closest where 46s and the slowest was late 50s. You do not need to be a racer just enjoy the session and try and improve.

We have only been to Farnborough but they look like they have a few places in the South.

Farnborough is good. It's on 2 levels, but allegedly they have 4 levels in Sheffield!

The Crawley team sport has 3 floors which is quite good have been a few times and always had a good crack, have heard there is a new out door track in Brighton which I fancy having a go at!

Can also vouch for Team Sport at Farnborough. The track layout is very clever on the split level and it was the first time I'd driven electric karts, thought the performance was excellent and the lack of fumes and virtual silence apart from tyre squeal was great.

Took my sons and the youngest had to use a junior kart which I thought would be pedestrian at best, but was really surprised at its performance. Neither had driven before and had a great time.

Sounds like a decent time was had by you all. Has anyone been to the karting track just of the M20 ? its an outdoor track ? junction 4 or 5 i think? any good, i only asking as it closer to me?

Is the Crawley one still going? as I went there years ago, and it was closing down soon after

But it may of been being refurbished, as it was only two levels then with one track

M2 ?
