Wing Stays Bending

Hi all,
I am shortly going to change my clam shell wings to cycle wings, I have got a nice new pair of wing stays (in-bent) and the question is.. What is the best was to bend the stays to match the radius of the new wing. I could easily follow the tyre radius but that’s not really going to fit the wing!

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

to be honest, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Usually the wing stay (or cycle wing bracket?) bolts to the hub and the cycle wing fixes to it, either with bolts or Sikaflex or similar. The bracket shouldn't need to be bent unless it's something you've fabricated yourself. The cycle wing fits over it and overhangs the bracket and tyre and anchors to the flat section above the tread area. I bolted some flat aluminium sections to the bracket to give a larger surface area for the adhesive to stick to, no problems so far.

The wing Stay brackets come straight and need bending to match your cycle wings. I understand they bolt onto the uprights.

I shaped mine to follow the shape of the inside of the arch as close as possible then at the inside edge cut and welded a tightly bent piece to step it inwards so that it missed the outer edge of the tyre and also the side wall. Will look for a pic of take one tomorrow

Originally I had the flat strip as 3mm, these tend to break so most of the flat was beefed up to 9mm.
This then attaches to the caped off end of a piece of conduit and joined all together at the callipers end.

I made mine out of 25m x 5mm bar, made them fit the hub carrier first,
Then stuck a pieces of 10mm light ply on the wheel, to give clearance tyre to arch
then just bent the 25mm bar with an extension bar over the wheel and wood spacer

Trim the bar to allow the arch to fit, and in my case, araldited the arch in place, and weighted down to stop it moving

Following day, took the whole lot off, and turned it upside down, and fiberglassed over the 25mm bar and onto the arch, thus giving me hidden fixings, as my design does not have any bolts or holes in the arch

Its more how you go about getting the correct bend on the top bars that I am asking about, I also plan on adding a ply wood spacer between the tyre and the bracket to get the correct spacing. Then I guess go from there to see how they line up. Will keep you posted on progress. I also plan on bonding them on with adhesive as do not want any visible fixings.
