Has anyone had a gearbox rebuild recently?
Engine out job apparently on a Westfield which ups the cost considerably.
In terms of the rebuild what sort of price point would be sensible?

Re: Gearbox Rebuilds
Chris, give these guys a call - www.bghgeartech.co.uk/
they might even have a refurbished one on the shelf. Rob bought a type 9 with long first from them a few years ago as a refurbished unit quite cheaply
don't you fancy taking it out yourself? - its not as difficult as you would expect!

Re: Gearbox Rebuilds
I had my gearbox repaired by this chap
http://www.pandrgearboxes.co.uk/pandrge ... pages/home
Proper old fashioned engineering types in a shed. It's nice to know that this still exists in our modern world!
I don't remember it being expensive for the amount of labour required

Re: Gearbox Rebuilds
I have a BGH gearbox with a longer first gear & strengthened (std type 9 is rated at 170 bhp apparently) it was around the £800 mark
What's the issue with the gearbox? They can be oil sensitive for example if you put "normal" gearbox oil (EP80) in them they won't go into first & second until the oil warms up.
Getting the engine & gearbox out can be easier than getting just the engine out - depending on the car & what's attached where.

Re: Gearbox Rebuilds
road & race over at Shoreham kent refurb diffs and boxes.....
bummer is that most places will want just the box and won't take it out....
(lee's quote i think was for a non standard Type 9 refurb) - i doubt a refurb would cost more than a few hundred - if its crunching between gears it'll most likely be a baulk ring which are pennies. Type 9'#s arent a fan of superfast changes...

Re: Gearbox Rebuilds
Hi all. It’s been difficult to shift into 3rd without obvious and very deliberate shifts for the past few track days.
I had the oil changed as a precaution recently but it didn’t make much diference.
It jumped out of 3rd gear under heavy acceleration at the weekend which worried me a bit because I was overtaking but thankfully on a dual carriageway rather than on the “wrong” side of the road on a single carriageway. Could have been nasty.
It’s getting the engine and box out that’s the pain as most people just want the ‘box delivered.

Re: Gearbox Rebuilds
mine was a type 9 with quaife internals so would be more expensive to service i guess.
take it to Dick if hes close..
he will remove the box and send it off for you.
jumping out of gear is usually worn syncs, low gear oil or shift linkage damage... top up your oil / or change it and see if it still does it. check your linkage and see if its damaged, if it is check engine and box mounts for damage as the cause.
i was told when i collected it that if you hold your gear stick in one gear with your hand before changing to another, (like prepping for the next gear) over time it can wear the selector fork.
i had worn syncs and the linkage and mounts needed replacing, it was hard to get into 1st and 2nd from neutral. never jumped out of gear though.
