Brands Hatch First Outing

Postby Nash » Mon Feb 25, 2019 8:25 am

Well after a year of work and rework (in the case of the exhaust) I finally managed to properly stretch the cars legs at Brands Hatch on Saturday.

The car just got through noise in the morning at 104dB  and in the afternoon around 3.30pm after about 60 laps of running I had it checked again and it came in at 100dB. The induction was/is louder than the zorst now so I need to think about that.

Anyway the car performed really well on track with oodles of grunt and an interesting change to the handling (it seems).

As with most 7esq cars they are nimble and agile in the turns and almost skip and dance through the corners. The Indy now feels more planted and "car" like.. the 65kg that the upgrade has added has helped the traction and after we (Dick and I) dialled in the tyres and damping (car likes 17psi HOT tyre pressure and a stiffer damping than before) it really started to sing and I had great traction out of the corners.

So pleased to report nothing fell off, no dramas and massive smiles were the order of the day. Noise is still closer than I'm comfortable with but moving in the right direction.

Happy days.

Must say that by mid afternoon the car was going well its surprising how a few small adjustments make such a big difference. Must say a few of the nimble caterham guys looked gutted when you could pull 100 yards on them down the straight. It sure can hold its own against a lot of out and out race cars. On the plus side with a bit more adjustment and a few more miles of you liking the indy again im sure it will be even better. Think what it could do with a set of track type tyres.

Good to hear it is going well :)
It must be quicker than any standard Caterham now. I don't understand bwhy they put their most powerful engine in the DeDion chassis when the CSR one would be ideal.

Just make sure you don't take it off the road for more upgrades in the summer!

No funds for a tour this year Rob. Going to spend the year building reliability and learning how to drive it.

Well done Neil, great to hear you are out and about again. Dick clearly has waved his magic wand again and I am sure it can only get quicker. In the meantime enjoy it.

Haha. No intention of taking it off the road again anytime soon Duncan. (He says looking for a piece of wood)
