Well the Soda blast gun arrived today with 10kg of Bicarbonate Soda, so I was eager to see how well it’s worked, I am pretty pleased with the results and it’s very quick. Below are some carb bit that i cleaned today. The yard now looks like it has snowed but hey that will wash away once it rains and hopefully the yard will also be nice and clean.
Need a carb service kit now which I shall order tonight, I don’t want to strip both carbs down at once as I will loose the template in case I forget where all the bits go.

I also split the engine and gearbox and degreased the engine ready for painting.

I spotted today that the donor car has BremSport 4 pot callipers with slotted discs, which look much better condition than my existing M16 ford ones, so I did a test swap and yep they fit a treat. The callipers actually look pretty new / good condition so these will be added to my list of swap parts from that donor.

Good days spannering, although the list of jobs keeps increasing. Also decided to SORN yet Westfield as the weather is turning pretty poop now. So that means the engine can be pulled out the Westfield and sold to generate some much needed funds.

Sorry no posts for a while been busy in the workshop. So what have i been upto.

So I spotted the donor car had some 4 pot front calipers on it and these looked to be in pretty good condition, checked they fitted correctly and them cleaned and fitted. I plan on painting then in the future but not just yet.

Also the front Gaz coilovers were almost new so these where added to the donor parts list too, along with the grooved discs which look better than the original escort ones currently fitted.

Engine has been fully cleaned and painted, new ERA raceline sump fitted along with modifing the oil pickup. See pic of the existing pickup. THis is why toy should not use too much sealer. I was almost completly blocked.
Water pump and front housing removed cleaned and repainted.

Gearbox cleaned, flushed out and repainted, along with new front and rear seals.

Zetec engine mounts sourced and ready, along with a nice new exhaust manifold.

Last night I test fitted the engine and box only to discover the propshaft has the wrong splice to fit the 5 speed type 9 box. A chap in East Grinstead was recommended to sort this problem who will build me a new prop to match the car / power with upgraded UJ's. Cost £160+ happy days.

Tonight I removed the prop and re-fitted the engine, this time it now sitting about where it should do so next get the Gbox mount and engine mounts fitting so I can measure up for the new prop.
QUESTION: Anyone using a raceline sump, the bellhousing now sits about 20mm lower than the sump, this worries me as it a pretty straight edge to get caught on the odd road scrape. I have somewhere read that you can trim the bellhousing down to be inline with the sump and then plate it so keep the crap out.. Anyone done this ?

Webbers still in 100 bits waiting to be put back together, but now thinking about putting some GSXR or similar throttle bodies on, but this would mean changing the ECU, so the plan is to get her up and running on the carbs, iron out any teething issues then when I have some more funds then change to TB's and a new ECU.


Must do's
Two cam cover bolts are stripped so need a helicoil kit to repair.

Hopefully over the Christmas break I can get the engine correctly mounted and new Gbox mount sorted.

I've got an MT75 but I had the same problem with the sump and bellhousing being lower.

I tried to buy a dirt plate to fit between but I couldn't find one to fit, although I was more concerned about the bellhousing catching on the road. I trimmed the bellhousing down as much as I could and then made up a bash plate to go over it. It's been OK for 7k miles so far...

I've got a raceline sump, not an ERA one onto an early type 9 and it lines up fine, except at the sides. I've got a plate between that blocks the gaps, got it from retro ford.

I had another look today and the bellhousing is about 30mm lower than the sump, so I have a plan. Will make a bash guard that connects to the chassis rail eitherside and has a tapered front edge to guide over any lumps and bumps.

my sump is shallower as its designed for a dry sump application, and a skid plate is def the way forward.
