Diff Woe
So I was happily fettling my new swirl pot (fuel starvation at Blyton) and I thought I'd just check the diff level while it was accessible, wish I hadn't! The magnetic plug was covered in swarf. One more thing for my winter list.

Re: Diff Woe
It might actually be OK as long as it is fine metal particles. My diff drips, so I have to top it up every other month and there are always fine metal particles on the plug. It is the second diff I've had in the car, and that was the same.
I change the oil every two years to clean it out, but sucking out the oil is a pain!

Makes light work of oil changes. Just make sure the pipe goes in ok and don’t force it or push it in too far.

Re: Diff Woe
As Duncan had said, I think it's not unusual to get the fine swarf accumulating on the magnetic diff plug. I've seen it too and the diff continues to live on happily.

Re: Diff Woe
Thanks for the replies. It's more than just a bit of swarf to be honest, I dropped it out last night and will drain the oil and see what I find, it doesn't turn very smoothly so I think a rebuilt looks likely. On the plus side, I can get good access to the rear and give it a clean and paint in the next few weeks.

At least it's better to discover it this time of year.
