Young Kit Car Drivers

Postby andyf » Wed Jan 22, 2020 12:54 pm

I was going to add James to my insurance for the Marlin Roadster and it seems that A-Plan do not have an underwriter who will add him on until he's 25. Are all kit car drivers over 25? I mean I was only 24 when I finished the Marlin, just saying.

Adrian Flux were always quite good with young drivers in modified cars.... perhaps they might be the same for kits? I don't know but might be worth a try?

For the record I'm over 25, well over!

That's a shame Andyf,

It's not just done on age, but age mixed with previous experience... insurers can have quite strict requirements on the power of vehicles previously driven without any claims etc.

Hopefully next year we might have something :) insurers amend their criteria all the time!

In another club I'm in, the average age is at least 40 and I know there are a few members who are younger than that (in their profiles) but they joined up, did a couple of posts and then silence ;) , so the real average is probably higher still.

Personally, I didn't know kitcars existed when I was 25 and even if I had, I didn't have the money or knowledge to do anything about it. My son is 16 but is not that interested in my kit and neither are his mates...but maybe one day he will be?

Sorry to say this but kits are an older generation thing... :D
