Insurance Cancelling

Postby Kegco » Fri Apr 17, 2020 6:13 pm

As you may know, just sold my other tiger.
Phoned to cancel my car insurance. I’m with Adrian Flux as the other car is with them as well.
On contact with them they said did I want to keep the insurance going with a dummy account, I asked what’s the benefit she said you won’t have to pay cancellation charge or admin cost on next vehicle, but as I don’t know when I’ll be get the next project, so went for cancelling, she had to go and talk to someone and was gone ages. But come back and said after cancelling charge I was going to get something like £30 back. The insurance was only bought in January, 4 months worth.
Next day I got a call saying this broker doesn’t give refunds and because it’s already been cancelled, so I couldn’t even go for the dummy account. Even though it’s only £30 it’s not the point.

I won't use Adrian Flux.

When I built my Caterham, I wanted build insurance, as I couldn't afford to lose the money if my garage had gone up in flames with the kit inside. Only two companies would quote, Footman James were £90 but I would need a new policy when the car was finished. Adrian Flux were £130 but assured me verbally over the phone that I could upgrade the policy to fully comprehensive when the car was finished.

Five months later, I phoned to upgrade the policy and they denied all knowledge of what they had said. To add insult to injury, I couldn't get any refund from the remaining 7 months (see a pattern here?). They quoted me a good price for a new policy, but I went back to Footman James.

Finally, a year after I took out the mis-sold build policy, they automatically renewed it! I phoned up spitting blood, if I ever have to deal with them again, it will be too soon

I’m feeling the same way.
the way they went about it, I only went with them because it was easier having both cars with them and all they done is pretty much copied and paste from the other car and just changed the reg.
worse thing it’s only just auto renewed. it was a better price then last year, so let it run.

I got a quote with them for the Lotus a few weeks before I was planing to get it ready for the “season”, 40 quid cheaper than I had been quoted by my current insurer so not a massive saving. They suggested that I could hold the price if I paid a deposit and that it was completely refundable if I didn’t go with them so I thought what the hell why not.

Spoke to my original insurer and they matched the price less the £25 admin fee that Flux charge so I’m quids in.

Call Flux to get my refund, get through and explain, get put on hold, girl comes back and offers me a further saving of 50 quid, I decline, get put on hold again, then offers me a 75 quid saving.
Again I decline stating that if they had offered me this price in the first place then we wouldn’t be having this conversation and can I have my money back.

Week later I get my refund, then I’m bombarded with emails saying that I’m driving uninsured in big letters in the emails and that I am breaking the law etc. Well I think that’s odd seeing as I didn’t actually take insurance with you I just paid a deposit to hold the quoted figure.

Then the final insult, the mobile phone bill comes in and it’s cost me 6 quid for the phone to call the f@*king thieving tw@ts.

Never ever again will they or any of their subsidiaries get any business from me!

That sums them up, they obviously could have gone much lower to start with, and have a premium rate number and hold you to claw some of the money you 'save' back.

When I questioned them, they admitted that I had been lied to when taking out the policy, but there was no real apology and the attitude was take it or leave it!

So I’ve got to look forward to a nice phone bill as well, as she disappeared and left me hanging on while she checked her figures that I’m now not getting, as they don’t do refunds!

Sounds like you've had a right ordeal :( I hope it doesn't put you off insuring another kit in future!
I know you've sold your Tiger but if you do get another please let us look after you, not only do we do build cover we also do laid-up cover which can be upgraded to road use midterm so you don't have to cancel and start a new policy with cancellation fees etc.
We also only use local numbers so no hidden charges there and our customer service is second to none, just look at our reviews online... Facebook for the specific ones to Thatcham Branch but Trustpilot is a good place to look for most companies... Reviews are public so everyone can view them, we are very proud of ours.

I’ve found them okay to be fair, A plan wouldn’t touch me after I had a couple of claims and accumulated 9 points on my licence 5 odd years ago  , my renewal went down by 25% when I called them though but this is fairly typical of all insurers.
9 is more than a number
