Ain't these just the most annoying of problems! Intermittent, secret, sneaky little electrical gremlins? Did you check the car for mice?

I recon the clutch cable has snapped again and twanged the fly by wire cable.

all sorted....new plug for the crank sensor fitted and .......it starts now!
needless to say the heavens have now opened and forecast is crap for the rest of the week....sorry guys, that'll me my fault!

cheers chaps, fired it up again today - to check it wasnt a fluke
want to give it a local run before a full on blat - soon as i've crossed that hurdle, will be back out with the A+ group
