As I’ve been helping my cousins with their stock cars ever since I gave up racing when I’m at the track I get the itch to have another go. So when they announced a new formula Minirods (which is a bmw mini with rollcage and a few other safety bits but standard engine, gearbox and suspension) I was interested as it seems a fairly cheap bit of racing. So I’ve finally decided to go for it and give it a go.
I picked up a mini last week and stripped the interior and ordered the cage. While I’ve been waiting for the cage I’ve done all the other little bits which isn’t a huge amount and today I picked the cage up and with some help from Kev we fitted it this afternoon. The rollcage could do with painting but I’m booked in to race on Saturday so it can wait till after this meeting.
I’ve just got a balljoint left to change and that’s about it it’s ready to go.

Re: My latest project
Thanks it should be fun. Untested car on a track I haven’t driven before and it looks like it might be wet, what could possibly go wrong

Re: My latest project
That looks cool and a lot of fun. Does the cage just bolt together and then bolt into place?

Re: My latest project
The guy I got the cage from will do a weld in kit for you to trim in and weld up yourself for half the price or the bolt in option which comes as the rear hoop with the diagonal and cross bars on,two sections which make up the front hoop and the door bars and it all bolts together and to the floor. It all went in really well as he makes it up in a mini then removes it so it’s a really nice fit, it took us about 2.5 hours to fit
