Another update. One of the problems I have is that with the throttle cable connected up there is not enough throw in the pedal to open the carbs to full throttle. There are several ways you can sort this problem out:

1. Move the connection on the throttle pedal further from the pivot point - I'm already as far as I can go really
2. Move the connection on the throttle linkage on the carbs nearer to the pivot point - difficult to do without modifying the weber linkage
3. Bend the bottom of the throttle pedal shaft outwards to increase travel - do-able, but I'd rather not
4. Cut off the top of the pedal to increase travel - getting a bit desperate now!
5. Cut out part of the bulkhead so that the pedal can travel through it a bit - stupid and really desperate!
6. Knock up a lever in the engine bay. The cable from the throttle pedal connects near the pivot. The cable to the carbs connects further from the pivot, giving more carb travel for less pedal travel. The trouble is I might end up with a very short pedal throw - which I can admittedly tweak (I've since this option done quite nicely on Locost Builders)
7. Treat myself to a nice adjustable throttle linkage - mine is basic and rubbish and I'm worth it!

Cue a quick discussion with Matt Lewis Racing (an ebay trader) who sold me this for £40. That's about half the Weber linkage price and Sytec linkages are supposed to be pretty good. On the basis that I said I'd give him a mention here he agreed to get it for me by the weekend.

The next issue is that the above is for a twin cable setup. This is all well and good but I've set my pedal box up for a single cable. It's not too much of a pain to change it, but I really don't want to have to drill two more holes through the lower chassis rail. Then there is the stupid pedal block you have to fit. The only decent single cable linkage I could find was a weber one for about £80 - so I needed to find a way of splitting the cable into two at the carb end.

I thought about using a Gyro cable off a BMX bike which looks like this.

I went into a bike shop and they let me have a play with one. When I explained what I was doing they brought me out a straddle cable.

The above gives me a way to get from a single cable to a double and is quite a neat solution. A day off tomorrow - should see it all bolted together!

Another update! Looking at the picture above I think I've ordered a linkage that works across the engine. This would be ideal for a Pinto, but I have a Zetec! I think I should have ordered the inline version. Doh!
