Ally welding anyone? ..... Please

Postby Tony B » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:44 pm

So Friday night somewhere near Worcester when it was really dark I was driving through a town with Bryan as passenger (so technically this is his fault!!), a car was coming the other way with his lights on which made it harder to see but basically I didnt see the spped hump until I hit it.

Only noticed today when I rolled the car out the garage to see a pool of oil on the floor, the ramp hit my expensive raceline sump and obviously split it, the only good news is that it must be very small as only really a teaspoon full has dripped out today.

Anyone any good at welding ally and has the gear?, I have a mig but obviously no good for this!, I also noticed that my silencer is split and needs a few welds.

Can anyone rescue me?

i know of an ally welder who i used to work with, works round the corner from brands....

But might be a bit far for you tho...he'd do it for free for me, but worth keeping him happy with a tenner.

How about Polegate for distance, or try Exactweld in East Grinstead. Exactweld Tel Number 01342 311595. ask for Guy Pearson and tell them Mike Hayman recommended them.

Polgate and EG are perfect for me and thanks for the number, I'll give them a call in the morning.

I wonder if anyone on here can do it, I fancy watching how its done.

Ben, a tenner sounds good and might still be worth the travel

Well if you want to see it done that can be arranged, he often does little bits for me that i cant do. Sit and help him most times.

if you want to travel over i'll give him a ring and organise something. Dont know if he does weekends tho.

As this is technically my fault i feel that i should help you. Ally can be welded with a mig just need right wire / gas.
Bring it round to my place i have never done it before but i am willing to have a go on your sump.
What could possibly go wrong.

mmm, must admit until it's all out you never can tell the full extent, but, judging by the scrapes and dent, and the embedded pebble Im pretty certain thats all it is - didnt have any loss of oil pressure either.

my problem is I havent got all the bits for the winter mods and theres a few runs I want to do before I start but it looks like I might have to submit and retire her for this year now, the engine needs to come out again for the flywheel and it will be out for a long time this time as I need to do some chassis repainting as well

sad day, I might just drop the oil out for the time being and chemical metal it to temporary seal it until it all comes out
