Top 5 sevens

Postby Contaminated » Sat Sep 25, 2010 10:17 pm

Mine in order are:

Caterham
Dax Rush
Westfield
Tiger (obviously)
Tricky - like the MNR and the Indy, never like RHs until the Zero - now I do

I think the best nearest the original concept is obviously the Caterham. Top marks to Dax for taking it to the extreme though - have a look at the Dax that was in Ten of the Best a couple of years ago. Awsome!

In order of test driven kit's and personal choices of looks ect...

Caterham... because it is lol
Tiger - possibly because marks is so nice, fast!, and the style
Dax - Because you can fit stupid engines in them.. Matt!
Westfiled - Driven a few not bad and they can look awsome too
Mnr, just love the front end of some of these they look so angry!

Price aside the caterham felt the most responsive in all aspects, im not loaded my 7 was somthing i dreamed about since being little and you can ask becky at the point of sale i said to the Dom im not sure if i want to buy this car as i will have forfilled my dream and i will have nothing to set as a goal.. strange and maybe a little sad but very true. If im honest it was the best decision i ever made as it is the most awsome driving experiance i will ever encounter that i could possibly own, their is nothing out their in my price bracket that will ever give the smiles and heart stopping moments my 7 does. Ont op of that i have met a massive group of people and made some very good friends because of our love for the stupid money pit little cars! So now you may understand why i get a bit touchy when defending the 7 heritage as it is somthing that is very different from all the rest!

When i went to buy a kitcar i had a budget of 11k, the reson i bought a caterham was at nearly every trackday i attended in hothatches i got taken by a caterham, in a straight line and in corners not any other kit only a caterham! i spent weeks looking at the different options test driving them visiting show rooms reading mags wasting peoples time looking at different specs. I even test drove 3 different caterhams. Dom at caterham south saved the SLR for last, why because it was mentle and unpredictable and damn right rude and he knew as soon as i got back he would get a deposit and he did! £18,500 price tag! to buy this spec 7 today 30K plus! and worth EVERY penny!

1. Caterham
2. Raw Striker
3. Westfield
4. Take your pick

Dax doesn't rate for me as they allow the stupidest rollbar on the planet to be fitted 'cos it looks good....tells you all you need to know. Having worked on my friends Duratec engined Tiger with the bum of a Sierra grafted on the back I'm also less than impressed...the R6 would be better though. You can certainly turn out a nice MK, MNR, STM etc etc but it looks like it takes effort and then there are the ones I wouldn't touch with someone else's barge pole, GTS, Robin Hood etc etc.

But then I wouldn't buy a Seven.... :)

Cyana is for me may not be the fastest but looks the Bollocks.
7 are all handling and go but no looks.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder, I mean there's sure to be a Jolie fan out there, or a Cruz or a Kylie - we all have different tastes ( my monies on Jenna Jameson ).....
I read the original post and thought what does Top mean? and at that point thought i wouldn't add my 2 Cents, as its an unquantifiable Statement/ Question.

I've seen nice examples of all the the above cars, and i've seen some dogs dinners. For me more often that not aside from the way that the car has appeared to be built, the colour scheme / paintwork and detail will make or break my opinion of that particular car ( not the marque as a whole!). Most 7'esque cars have something that doesnt quite gel ( no pun intended ).
Often solid unbroken colours can make some 7esques look like bath tubs, some are just plainly out of proportion ( the end of a Tiger Cat looks like Beyonce on steroids as opposed to 'the real thing' ).

I rather like the freshness of the Toniq, if that can be considered 7style? and would have the right Caterham in a heartbeat.
Few owners ( me included ) have the talent to wring the last ounce of handling out of their cars, so it becomes a question of what is visually appealing rather than one of performance ( in my not so humble opinion ), so finish and appearance tend to be my yardstick.

This is so subjective its pointless discussion.

So I will add mine opinion.

The best one is the one you can afford and you have on the road, whatever it is.

Next best is the one you aspire to, again whatever it is.

This is all based on "modern" cars. I exclude the old 70's kits that should no longer be available. No offence to people who have them but things have moved on a lot. (Sorry Medic Dan! but yours has moved on a lot since you bought it ;) )

I like the Procomp LA Gold, fully caged naturally. And I really do like the GBS Zero, to me it has no affiliation with RH of old! It's a genuine locost like several others, but to me the looks are ace, 95% Caterham especially when fully painted. If I had £10k kicking about I'd love to build one with a Honda S2000 lump, bloody awesome with nearly 250bhp out of the box and no rebuilds ever!

I am seriously getting tempted to sell my Phoenix and buy a Caterham 7 to do an S2000 conversion on, oh yes.

S2000 engine would you use the Honda box or will it bolt on to something else.
