Is 4" Enough

Postby Nogoingback » Tue Sep 28, 2010 12:01 am

So lying on my back in my workshop tonight taking my old bones of the MNR i looked across at the under side of the Cyana and i recon even though i only have a stock sump on her i still have 4" of clearance. Just wondered as people keep on hitting their bottoms on humps is that more than the average clearance. I had 4" when driving the MNR as that has a flat bottom.

Bryan 4" or 101mm is ok for clearance I would suggest. What is the lowest point on the underside? Is it the sump or the bellhousing?

Convension says shorten the sump to align with the bellhousing base then that's as much ground clearance as you can get.

You an always fit a sump guard.

I had about that, and the bell housing sat about 1/2 and inch lower, my problem was the speed hump, if Id gone slower it wouldnt have happened but dark with oncoming headlamps at 25mph (ish) and accidents happen!!

I'll be making up a sump guard once the engines back in but 4" is enough to satisfy anyone in my opinion !!

I'd be delighted with 4 inches. I've recently raised mine to about 3.5 inches!

My Phoenix only has fractionally more than that, but as it is with the wheel base not hanging out front you should be fine. My only concern are the humps where you can put a wheel either side, I just make sure I put at least one wheel up onto the hump. Never had an issue so far

I questioned Mrs Ballores on this and she started going on about width,I am assuming she was on about the distance between humps ;) .
