Guess the lower ball joint

Postby davro » Sat Jun 04, 2016 1:09 pm

Had an MOT failure on Front Lower suspension ball joints 22,000 miles seems quite low mileage for ball joints to be worn :/ Mine is a 2009 Dax Rush MC with camber compensation.

I was reading this thread http://forum.daxsportingclub.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5921&hilit=lower+ball+joint and the custom ball joint in question looks different press fitted where mine is threaded :o I hope mine is not even more of a Dax bespoke special ?

My local car spares and euro parts could not identify the part, with metro ball joints nearly fitting the bill, but being to short and threads not matching.

Before I start building new wishbones using standard off the shelf ball joints doe's anyone recognize this one, or even better have a pair kicking around

I have a feeling this is going to turn into a right royal poop show

Thanks steve m I checked out the MG Rover and metro ball joints at my local car spares they are basically the same but the threads are slightly a coarser thread and the top part is flat rather than domed.

I might have a solution, after further investigation inside the old ball joint, it's only worn on the internal plastic bushing that mates against the top domed part of the hub, that's compressed by the upper thread, I can shim this into position, the metal ball end is in virtually perfect condition, So I plan to order some Delrin Tubular Bar stock and turn down some new bushings on the lathe. Then I will have rebuildable and adjustable ball joints
