I've been thinking of changing the engine in my car to a zetec. I have just been offered a friends v reg 1.8 mondeo with low mileage that has been well looked after (and just had a new clutch) so I will soon have the car to strip. I have also just won a set of bike carbs and manifold that will fit it on eBay. I know I'll need to get a ecu for it, a different sump, engine mounts and sort the exhaust but is there any other parts I should be looking out for?
I'm not planning on fitting it till over winter so not rushing to get the parts together just trying to get it ready and spread the cost a bit.

Just a idea mate,keep your eyes on the wscc forum loads of bits for zetec for sale.....martin

With the silvertops, they were 115 bhp for the 1800, but fitting bog std cams from a 2.0 took them to 130bhp. So might be worth keeping an eye out. Also the 1.8 Escort flywheel is the lightest Ford made for the Zetec - just a little heavier than Burton's "lightweight" one & just over 1/2 the weight of the Mondeo one, from memory 6.5kg vs. 11.5.

Let me know if you need a hand extracting the engine, Mattijs and I are a dab hand with a hacksaw and a large pair of wire cutters! We started methodically when we swapped the engine in his, but it came out so much quicker when we stopped faffing about disconnecting the plumbing/wiring carefully

Tony H thanks I'll look out for them bits although I have just looked and if it's the 130 engine the cams are the same on the 1.8/2.0.
Tony C I was originally going to take it out nicely and keep the wiring loom etc to try and run the original ecu but as I have some bike carbs now it will probably just get ripped out

Get your self an ecu that can do injection that way when you decide to swop over you will have saved yourself £££. You will need a suitable starter and alternator with bracket . Sump wise a sierra 1.8 cvh is the way to go if you want to chop one , they do come up but can be about £100
get the pick up pipe to. Easy to baffle out and hold lots of oil , have done few of these for people and they work well. think you have most of the other stuff covered when you strip the engine don't loose the windage tray you will need it.

I have read that the starter needed is the one from the dohc engine that I've got in the car is that right? I fitted a new one when I got the car so I'll hang on to it

I believe that's right. I have a 1.8CVH Sierra one on mine so could compare.
