Radiator leak

Postby Matth93 » Tue Sep 27, 2016 7:54 pm

I've just been out to the garage for something and found a puddle under the mk. The car has been parked there for about a week and the puddle was maybe 6 inches round it doesn't seem to have lost very much from the header tank. Its a old style radiator all metal no plastic.
So what do I do for Friday? Try to get it repaired or repair it myself does anyone know of anywhere, I've looked at Aaron rads in croydon website and it says 5-7 days :( or chuck some rad weld in it and hope it holds

Yes I can see it, it's coming from where the core joins the bottom piece I'm going to chuck some k seal in it tomorrow which should stop it ( I've used it before on a freelander head gasket and it worked ). Then when I start the engine change I'll get it repaired or change it for a different rad ( if I remember right a lot of people run a polo rad )

Yep - stupidly cheap & work a treat. The VW rads seem to come in a number of set configurations as if they make the cores as a continuous length & cut to suit. I think mine's a MkII Golf rad, but for all intents & purposes it's the same as everyone else's Polo Rad.

Matt,

This should do the job, a decent all aluminium race rad at £300+ is no doubt better, but the VW302 worked fine on my Pinto and Zetec engined cars even in hot weather on 'tours', this is the one I used each time I replaced the old rusty one; http://www.adrad.co.uk/prices/prices.ph ... &make=POLO
