1.0 Ecoboost

I have a Quantum Xtreme with a 2.0 Pinto, 205 block, on twin DCOE40's. I get 125bhp but the Pinto takes its time revving up. I could fit electronic ignition, etc., but that's quite expensive.

My son has suggested just "going for it", but came up with the most ridiculous idea of fitting a mapped, 1.0 3 cylinder Ecoboost. Light, produces 180bhp if set up correctly, revs like fury, and sips fuel.

Anyone done it? Are we in danger of setting a new trend? Anyone done it already?

Really interested in thoughts on this one, it's so mad, it might just work.

As jeff said its a tall engine....one hell of a bonnet bulge.....tho anything can work

In theory it sounds like a fantastic idea, if you were one of the pioneers of this though I reckon it could be come quite costly as you would be doing the 'R n D' and probably need some custom parts made and also lots of potential trial and error.

However in something like a Riot it could be quite straight forward. Love to see how this develops as Im sure it will

Your need every thing that ford fit to make it work as the engine is only part of the package, they even use g sensors in the car to detect when your corning and braking to adjust power levels from the engine, the exhaust is full of sensors as is the power plant they even detect how the engine block is dealing with the heat so you wont be fitting an aftermarket ecu and getting what ford do. If you go ahead with this use the latest series engine you can as ford are still developing them due to so many problems.

Westfield are selling a 2L ecoboost package. It is a physically big lump but clearly goes in.

not a cheap option but ford racing products actually have a stand alone ford ecu that will run a 2.0 ecoboost without the rest of the poop an ecu expects to see in a car these days. it may be worth contacting them to see if it will work with the 1.0 ecoboost.

it must exist as there are some manufactures here in the states suing the 1.0 ecoboost in single seaters and track cars.

I think it would be cheaper (NOT cheap though!) and better to fit a duratec.
