Aston Martin Hire

Postby Tony C » Tue Dec 20, 2016 10:35 pm

I've been threatening to hire an Aston Martin for while now as I guess I'm never going to own one. Has anyone done anything similar before and if so do you have any recommendations or pitfalls to watch out for? Most hire companies seem to be based in town and I don't fancy wasting the precious mileage allowance driving through traffic in Central London! Crunchie, you must have done this

Tiger R6 - 2009-2014
Austin Healey Sprite - 2014-2018
Fisher Fury Le Mans - 2018-2019

My first thought is to make sure you photograph any scratch or dent on it and inform the company representative before even moving it.

Which model do you fancy, they all look much the same to me nowadays :)

Years and years ago I had a Ferrari hired for me. Great fun but the per day mileage limit was very small (100 miles or so) which had not been communicated to me, I had it from Friday to Monday morning and did almost 1700 miles :) Cost the company who had hired it a lot more money than they where expecting.

So watch out on the t&c

I personally would hire a historic car for a summer weekend or do the Jaguar historic day (C-Type, E-Type etc). There are car clubs which you can join an then borrow cars for weekends if you want to do it regularly.

Most if not all these cars are fitted with black box date recorder/transmitters now and the hire agreements are very tight in the small print somewhere or on the website that you wont find it will say you must not exceed the speed limit you must not heavy brake you must not drive round corners fast ect ect in fact unless you are going to drive it slower than Miss Daisy then you will incur massive top up penalties to if you don't conform. Some even say you can only travel 40 miles from the hire point as an example and can not go to points XXX.

Sorry Tony I have not hired a super car.

I did look at hiring a 1953 Fiat V8 for the Mille Miglia with my brother but we have not got round to it and it was very expensive. :(

What about trying one of the super car experience days? Not quite the freehand approach to living the dream, though probably more cost effective and you might be able to rag it a bit.

Not sure if this floats ya boat but I've done two f1 days, you start of in a super car then work up , single seater 1.6 2.0 then if there happy with you you get to drive an f1 car, mine was the tirrel and the arrows car, they said I could do what I wanted, go as fast as I wanted, the only stipulation was if I span, I'm out , think it was 8 laps, amazing experience, think it was £1200 , not cheap but they did a dinner/talk the night before all included.
