Fuel Pump - Dying?

Postby Fury1630 » Sun Apr 09, 2017 5:25 pm

Just got back from a ride out in the Fury & realised I could hear the fuel pump while idling. Never noticed it before, so I'm assuming this increased noise level is it's death rattle. It came from an injected Carlton via ebay in 2012, so I can't complain.

Any suggestions for a replacement? - ideally it needs to be interchangeable with the Carlton one which is just the normal 5" long cylindrical aluminium can, 12mm input at one end, 8mm output at t'other. it's an injection pump & obviously I don't want to pay a fortune for it :D .

We used to find that electric facet fuel pumps got noisy if they are sucking air. Could it be its sucking air from somewhere or the fuel getting hotter now you've boxed the engine in causing it to start to boil/evaporate making the pump noisy on a hot day, just a thought.

Hammy - sounds good, could you post a couple of pics please?

Matt, the pump's behind the diff, so any increase in heat is coming from the fuel in the return line warming the whole tank - not a nice thought, but I don't think it's that. The air in the line is a good bet, I'll check all the pipes between the tank & the pump just to make sure they're in good condition, thanks.

Merlin Motorsport looks like a good bet there's pumps listed against thousands of cars including several for the Carlton - none of which look like the one on the car :?

My Sytec HP pump has done great service over the past five years. I've no LP pump.

:D :D :D

I have oil pressure issues to sort out before I can move the car again, so I'll be in touch during the week if that's OK.
