How do you make petrol?

Postby Tony C » Wed Jul 26, 2017 5:56 am

So today the government is set to announce that;

'New diesel and petrol cars and vans will be banned in the UK from 2040 in a bid to tackle air pollution.'

So either we'll all have to give up our kit/classic cars as fuel supply becomes limited or we have to find a way of making it ourselves. Any ideas?

Nissan Leaf Sir? I think not :evil:
Tiger Cat E1 - 2008-2009
Tiger R6 - 2009-2014
Austin Healey Sprite - 2014-2018
Fisher Fury Le Mans - 2018-2019

I hope there will be enough wealthy and influential owners of classic cars to ensure fuel supply continues for some time. After all flying is much more polluting and there's no talk of banning that.

I can't understand why we don't just convert internal combustion engines to run on hydrogen. Several companies are working on fuel cells that convert hydrogen to electricity, but a V12 running on it with water as the only emissions would be much more fun :D

It'll take a while after that to purge the old petrol powered daily drivers out of the car market and by then I'll be past caring!

I think the problem is the "WHUMP" & fireball the size of a football pitch when you crash one :D. But yes, passenger jets are far more polluting & inject the pollution directly into the upper atmosphere where it does most damage - ever wondered how CO2 causes such a problem in the upper atmosphere when it's heavier than air? But I guess airlines, engine & airframe makers, holiday companies & airports have better lobbyists than kitcar drivers,

The SMMT haven't been involved on this and I'm sure will have something to say. The oil companies might not be too happy either. Personally I think it's bullsh1t unworkable ill thought through Bollox from a Mickey mouse government that should be lined up and shot. They'll end up finding middle ground

By the way it's only cars
and vans we could get a few 40 tonne tractor units and hoon around in them.

That said I might put away a few V8's and look forward to playing out mad max for real.
