Suspension setup?

Postby nelmo » Sat Aug 05, 2017 8:19 am

Can anyone recommend a suspension tuner in Surrey, Sussex etc? Preferably one with kit car experience...

Spoke to a place in Oxted but he admits to have only done 'a few' kit cars (I'm thinking that's garage speak for 'what the feck is a kit car?').

Can you not set it up yourself ?? I'm no expert but I did my zero when I had it, put some rear rake adjusted all the suspension equally (meaning same both sides ) and it handled like a dream, tone knee bee did his too I think and equally handles the dogs dangles, does it feel bad or you just want an expert on it ??

I've adjusted it as best as I can but my tyres squeal a lot (at slow speeds), potholes knock me sideways but the ride is pretty comfortable otherwise.

I have no reference to know if this is normal or not but I'm pretty sure it can be improved by a pro.

If the back jumps sideways when you hit a pothole I would be looking at the wheel alignment on the back my Spartan used to do it and I found the rear wheels were toeing in lots. I set mine and my brothers cars up also and seem to have got them pretty good.

I used PT Motorsport in Maidenhead. They run a number of race kit cars and sorted my Caterham for road and track. It is so easy to drive now :D Although I am going to sell it   :?

H Neil,
i think with kits and set ups the ideal is to give the 'specialist' something to work with in terms of what others are running/trying.....am assuming that you're wanting to check the camber/toe etc rather than going for a full flat floor?
surprised that you have tyre squeal - could that just be the tyres themselves, what are you running?

I used Boss near Brands. He sorted the alignment etc but I softened the suspension a bit for the road. He has a number of 7s that he hires out for track days so is very clued up.

To be honest, not sure what I want/need. My first kit and what I know about suspension could be written on a beer mat ;)

Tyres are Toyo Proxes-R, 195/50 R15s...are they OK?
