ZETEC RACELINE SUMP

Postby BIOMAN » Fri Sep 22, 2017 5:53 pm

Hi, can anyone tell me if it's OK to fill my 2.0l Blacktop Zetec with 5litres of oil as recommended by Chris at Raceline? I've spoken to lots (on forums) and they all say fill to the standard dipstick level or be prepared to buy a new engine. I've gone against this advice as Raceline stipulate 5 litres is the required amount of oil and to recalabrate the dipstick. Have done 100'sh miles and all seems OK and no oil in the catch tank. Advice please :-).
Thnx

I'd personally trust the expert but I wouldn't be surprised if the 5 litres they say happens to be very close to the markings on the standard dipstick anyway.

Having said that, the standard dipstick goes into the main engine block above where the sump bolts on (so a fixed point, independent of the sump) . I believe that the important thing is to ensure the oil level is below the bottom of the big ends so they don't thrash around in oil which is bad (not sure why) so basically the dipstick must be marked to do that and therefore, it doesn't matter what sump is on there, the level still must be the same, no?

I followed the 5l instructions and had no issues after maybe 15k miles.

I just changed from standard dipstick level to putting 5 litres in. Far too little oil in before. I recalibrated the stick and did some serious hooking in Italy and must say the engine felt better.
I'd take the advice from race line.

5 litres of oil in, re-calibrated stick = No problems :-) .

Thanks
