car storage rack

Postby Dave Z » Sun Nov 22, 2015 7:57 pm

hi all

Looking for some advice from some one with steel structural knowledge.

I am short of space in my garage and want to make a rack so that I can store my trials car which is 500kg above my autotest car.

I am looking at two steel beams supported at a max of 4m apart, the beams will be 1m apart.

what size should I be looking to use?

thanks

Dave

Ihat will be too light I think,

I need a clear space underneath which needs to be 3.4 m minimum, so with the supports etc will be about 4m span.

If I had the height and a garage large enough to do it, a two post lift ?
that way you would have something useful for your other cars as well

there's a few on ebay, but for some reason I am unable to attach any links ?

steve

I havent got the height for a two post lift either, did consider lifting the roof but suspect planning might be a problem.

I would guess but thats just me. I'd rather pay for a larger steel that someone to work out the min required.
Go for what looks right, then get the next size up. 245, 135 35kg ?
