Helping out rant

Postby Dick » Sat Jul 02, 2016 6:51 pm

Why is when you try to help some people out they end up winding me up. A fellow Tiger cat E1 owner on another forum asked for help relating to his front suspension, so I posted up saying that what he was asking was not possible and gave him the details of what the parts are and the name of them and where to get them from. He post back sarcastic comment well something's hold the wheels on as if the info I had posted was incorrect. Now I'm not saying I know every thing but I sure know more than this prat. So my question has to be why when you try to help someone out they then give you total disrespect. They all so end up living to far away for me to go and whisper in his ear  . It would be nice for people to understand that when people offer help or info for free that we have taken the time to read there post and reply. Very few people ever finish post off saying what they did to cure a problem or thank those that help. Must say the last point is not an SKCC problem but common on other sites. Rant over

Dick, sorry but not surprised. You and the boys are the most generous bunch when it comes to sharing information and offering assistance so you don't deserve this kind of response. I'm afraid it is symptomatic of today, manners are dead and they cost nothing. I' m not saying everyone is a rude pig, far from it, there are some thoroughly decent people out there but the numptee brigade seems to be getting a lot larger and more prevalent these days. I say put it to bed, not let it get to you , you are far better than that and finally you should be happy in the knowledge you are right and he will forever be wrong.

People on forums are often very rude. My car knowledge is very limited compared to yours, but sometimes I can help due to previous experience. It is actually surprising on many forums when helpful comments are acknowledged, let alone the original poster telling us what the result was :(

Having said that, SKCC is the exception, and I believe it is because we all want to meet up in real life rather than just online.

In case it makes you feel better Dick, it is fairly common for patients to think they know better than their dentist these days. I am so tempted just to hand them the drill and suggest they try and do it themselves

There is a lot of people on this site and probably on other sites Dick that owe you a lot, if not coming in to your garage for work or a telephone conversation or even a e-mail etc. All I can say is thank you to you and your garage, and sod all the wankers out there, they are not worth it mate, low life people who know nothing and will never ever know as much as you.
Smile mate and forget.

Duncan and James have made the point well,,, manners cost nothing, even if you disregard the advice offered, an acknowledgement doesn't hurt. Sadly I would probably respond back telling the OP what a short sighted, ungrateful little bum wipe they are in the face of genuine and sincere advice. and If they carry on with that attitude its very unlikely that you are others would be so willing to offer advice in times of need in the future. It would make me feel better though its probably best to post nothing, walk away and let them wallow in their own incompetency, which no doubt will catch up with them at some point.

A lot of people just allow their Ego / self-importance to get in the way of just being a decent human being.

I tend to find that most not all people born before the advent of mobiles phones and the Internet are generally more respectful/appreciative of the power of having contact with so many people/groups all over the world! This still amazes me that the powers that be allow this free flow of information.

I have a lot of respect for anyone willing to freely share time/information, as this has allowed me to reinvent myself from a fairly brain dead plasterer to a senior software engineer all without stepping into a classroom just by working on free/open source projects, because I was willing to read/listen and learn, and best of all make friends all over the world with these epically cool people way ahead of their time.

But I really do think we are missing so many tricks, we have gone from Radio to TV to the Internet in a few generations, and most people are still stuck in the TV mentality of being prescribed there daily input (mostly fear and drama) without even considering how powerful this Internet revolution is because they are to busy pandering to the social layer making sure they don't perceivable get mugged off ;)

I agree. It's great being able to get advice from others who I'd never meet otherwise.

Don't waste any time worrying about them Dick they're a waste of space.... net producers of carbon dioxide, as a former boss of mine used to say.
