Hi all, I have a Tom Tom xxl and think most people have. Can i ask if you use a USB socket to charge/ use the TT while on the move ??
I am having a few issues doing this, the TT is fully charged and works well plugged into the USB, but when I turn the ignition of, even though the TT is charged the TT goes of. I popped round to Tony T this evening just to try it on his car, the same result using the USB socket, works fine on the cigarette socket.
Any ideas guys and girls.
Thanks Colin

Re: USB Socket
Most USB sockets give 1 amp maximum and Tomtom chargers are 1.2 amps, so if you fit a standard USB it won't supply enough current to keep the Tomtom going permanently.
I also read that USB units fitted to cars can keep drawing power, so need to be switched off with the ignition. In my opinion, it is just better to use the lighter socket ant Tomtom charger.

Re: USB Socket
Mine also does it after a few minutes if you leave it on when you unplug or turn the power off to it. I think it's just the way it's set up

Re: USB Socket
Colin, why do you want it to stay powered when the ignition is off?

Re: USB Socket
Neil, when I turn the ignition of the TT should stay on under its own power, but i doesn't, it goes to a silver screen then you have to re boot it buy holding the on of button down for a period of time. When we all meet up on say a Sunday I want the TT to stay on so when we leave I don't have to re start the TT .
The battery in the TT is good.
Hope this comes across correctly ???

Re: USB Socket
Does it re boot under its own battery or does it require external power

Re: USB Socket
Graham, it will reboot using the internal battery ok. I went over to Tony T last night and it did the same when plugged into the usb.
